Our Philosophy

The idea for Dave and Dee’s Homegrown Mushrooms was born on a trip to the supermarket when Dave was finding ingredients for a special dish.  When he found the oyster mushrooms the recipe called for, he didn’t like what he saw.  The mushrooms had been shipped, of course, from out-of-state, and had clearly seen better days.

“I could grow something better than that!” he told Dee, and she challenged him to try it.  After lots of research and lots more elbow grease, Dave and Dee’s Homegrown Mushrooms was born.  Growing local Virginia produce for local tables is at the very heart of our mission, and while our mushrooms are at the center of our business, we also market other Virginia Grown produce through partnerships with other local growers.  The farmers custom pick their produce for the many restaurants we service.
